2003-12-17 - 1:14 p.m. - Cycle day:

It's amazing how much difference stress (and the absence of it) can make. Since The Husband has been home on holiday break, it's like we've suddenly got this wonderful, peaceful little family. I have access to food on a regular basis, including some fantastic home-cooked meals, so I've been feeling like a normal functioning person again. I can get work done, so I'm not constantly angsty. The Husband has even taken M. out of bed after our morning feed so I can get some solid sleep. It's been wonderful. It just makes everything work more smoothly. M. is even sleeping better, both day and night.

We're traveling to visit my family over Christmas, and I'm so excited. Not only will it be great to introduce her to a whole messload of relatives, but I'm eagerly anticipating all those open arms, and hence a week of relatively restful parenting. I'm hoping we can get her eating from a cup or bottle by then (I just bought the Avent sippy cup, but haven't tried it yet), so The Husband and I might even be able to have a few hours out and alone. I'm not counting on it, though. It will be enough just to be able to take a break when I need it.

On a sidenote - Are we awful parents for not buying presents for our three-month-old baby? I mean, it just seems ridiculous. What are we gonna do, wrap something up when she's napping and then open it when she's awake? Some part of me feels weirdly neglectful for not getting her anything, but then the sane part chimes back in.

Of course, sane is a little over-rated. I mean, you're talking to someone who decided to dress her baby up like a duck on some random Wednesday afternoon ...
