2003-11-30 - 3:30 p.m. - Cycle day: A mostly relaxing holiday weekend at the Suspenseful household. Thanksgiving was a bit more chaotic than planned, owing mostly to our two toddler dinner guests, but it was nice to share the day with friends. And even nicer to spend Friday with absolutely nothing to do. M. handled the activity pretty well, but she was obviously overwhelmed by it, as evidenced by her full-on nap-a-thon the next day. Speaking of overwhelmed, I'm getting increasingly concerned that M. has started teething. I know it's early, but she's been drooling like a St. Bernard (not the loveliet descrption of my precious daughter, I realize, but pretty accurate) and gnawing on her little hands whenever she remembers that she has them. Plus she's unusually fussy and restless. She's back to sleeping like a newborn - in 2-3 hour stretches, even at night. I've tried giving her homeopathic teething tablets, and those help a lot, so that seems to confirm our suspicions. Which sucks. It would have been nice to get a month or two of mellowness before this started, rather than a week. I've been really grateful that The Husband has been around to help with her the last few days, and I'm dreading going back to work tomorrow. The good news is, thanks to his wonderful academic schedule, The Husband only works a few days this week and then will be on vacation for the rest of the month. That's going to be so nice. Just him being here and spending time with the baby makes everything better. The more he holds her, the more they bond and the better he gets at understanding the true demands (and rewards) of parenting. If this stupid country allowed men to take paternity leave, I have a feeling that post-partum depression rates would plummet.
