2003-08-13 - 3:31 p.m. - Cycle day: 37 weeks, 3 days

Just a quick update after today's OB appointment. The doula came along with us, so we got a nice chance to chat and she had some time to talk to the doctor a little (and confirm that it's okay for her to call him in for back-up if the hospital staff gives us any trouble). Vitals were as follows:

Weight: 139 lbs.
Blood pressure: 108/72
Fundal height: the new nurse measured 38.5 cm, but I made Dr. Hippie do it and he came in at 37 (I know it's just a rough measurement anyway, but I like being in the same number range as the week I'm in).
Fetal heart rate: a speedy 156 bpm - I guess it makes a difference when the baby's actually awake.

Everyone's trying to talk us into the smaller, farther hospital. Both the doula and the nurse were saying how much better the care is there. Not that I need any convincing. I liked it much better. But The Husband is just concerned about us having the time to get there. I don't think he realizes that it doesn't happen in real life the way it does in the movies, and that we're likely going to have at least 24 hours notice before things get really dramatic.

Dr. Hippie generally ends each appointment by saying "Okay, I'll see you in a week." Today, he ended by saying "Okay, I'll see you in a week, unless you've delivered." Man. I can't believe we're so close. I've set Sept. 8th as my mental due date - it's a week past the real one. I figure I'll plan to work until then, and if I still haven't had the baby, I won't want to be working anyway. That's just three and a half weeks away. Man.

Speaking of which, if you haven't voted in the baby name poll, please check out the link to the left there. We need help. And fast.
