2003-06-23 - 1:25 p.m. - Cycle day: 30 weeks, 1 day Holy crap, 30 weeks. 30 weeks! How did that happen? We're almost in single digit weeks until my due date! People kept telling me time would fly, and I brushed it off thinking, "Time will do nothing but mosey for a very pregnant woman living in a semi-tropical climate during the hottest part of the year." But man, 30 weeks! Ten (or so) weeks to go! It's really hard to believe. In other panicky news: I added up all the stuff on our various baby registries the other day and came to a total close to (US)$4000. Considering that I made a deliberate effort to be minimalist, that seems like quite a lot, especially since I'm not counting on any floofy baby showers (most of my friends are un/under-employed men). The biggest items we have on there are a stroller, a crib mattress and a fancy Britax convertible car seat. No furniture, no swings, so flashy electronic toys. It's basically just general, boring things like onesies, changing pad covers, breastfeeding supplies, etc. I will admit, our organic/attachment registry was more than twice any of the others. Those unbleached cotton gowns and eco-friendly diapers'll cost you. But like I told my doula, we've got a car seat, and that's the only thing we're legally obligated to own. Everything else is gravy. Adorable, hand-made gravy. Speaking of my doula, we went to a comfort measures workshop sponsored by our local childbirth cooperative. It was two hours split into 15 minute segments of women talking about and demonstrating various ways to ease pregnancy and labor, from homeopathy to massage to yoga to hydroptherapy. It was a good way to spend an afternoon, and both The Husband and I walked away with some new information. It was also a good general overview of a lot of the topics that we'll cover in our childbirth education classes, which start next week. Despite a little sadness that I have to give up the last five Saturdays before I hit the "too pregnant to do much of anything, let alone travel" stage, I'm looking forward to the course and feel better in general knowing that we'll have all the tools available to prepare for this baby.
