2003-06-20 - 3:11 p.m. - Cycle day: 29 weeks, 5 days Thanks to everyone who responded to my post about the breastfeeding class by recommending La Leche League. My mom's a huge LLL proponent - she actually bought me The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding the day after I told her I was pregnant. I've always planned to attend some meetings before I'm due. Problem is, the meeting schedule for my area is not very working-mom friendly. The cool meetings are held in the middle of a weekday (vs. the suburban group which meets on a weeknight; where's the logic?). There's an informal breastfeeding support group at our awesome new mothering store, but that also meets during a weekday. I'm sure I can figure something out, though. If nothing else, I can at least attend while I'm on maternity leave, and those are likely to be the weeks I need the most help anyway. I've also got a childbirth educator who is a certified lactation consultant, plus my doula, so I've definitely got access to all the help, support, and information I could want. In other news, I've just noticed that my belly is a bit red. Is that normal? At first I thought it was from these stupid huge maternity shorts rubbing on me, but then I noticed it after I got out of the shower. There's this big swath, from about 3 inches above my (former) belly button to the bottom of my belly, that looks like it's mildly sunburned or something. I'm assuming it's just from the extra bloodflow to the placenta or something, but of course the little paranoid voice in the back of my head whispered "Or you could be bleeding internally." Thanks, little paranoid voice. Thanks a lot.
