2003-06-09 - 4:27 p.m. - Cycle day: 28 weeks, 1 day Okay. Being at 28 weeks doesn't seem so scary. Being 12 weeks away from my due date really, really does. Twelve is not that many weeks. And June? June is already more than a quarter over. Practically halfway gone. Where is the time going? I'm not quite to panicking yet, but I feel a new sense of urgency. I look at our baby registry and feel like I need to budget and prioritize so we can make sure we get the things we need. I'm taking classes and workshops like a college kid on the seven year plan. The reality of being pregnant still isn't completely formed in my head, but the reality that we're going to have a child is starting to really sink in. Speaking of classes, I took a "Preparing to Breastfeed" course over the weekend. The instructor was very nice and I'm sure knowledgeable, but it was just a one hour class and we really didn't have time to go over all the things we needed to. I got very little new information, yet left feeling like I still didn't have what I needed. We didn't get a chance to talk about latch or position, and all the handouts we had said that those were the most important elements of breastfeeding success. There was one article that described the process, but I can't absorb that sort of task-related information through reading - I really need to see it demonstrated. So I left feeling a little disappointed, but oh well. I also felt reassured that I know more than the average person about breastfeeding, and that knowledge will be helpful. In other news, we just got back from the OB. Dr. Hippie's report: "Your weight is fabulous, your size is exactly on target, your blood pressure couldn't be any better and your urine test ... (long pause that made me nervous) ... is perfect." Normally, he'd have a 28-week patient back in 2-3 weeks, but because I'm doing so well, we're sticking with the 4 week spacing until after the next visit. (For posterity, my belly measurement was 27cm - they say it should be about a cm for each week of pregnancy, give or take 2cm, so that's right on - and my weight was 131.5 lbs.; the baby's heart rate was about 160) I've never been much of an overachiever, but I do feel a totally unjustified pride in the fact that things are going so smoothly (knock on all things wooden). Edited to add: Hanna Andersson is having an awesome sale right now. They've got adorable and extremely well-made clothes that are usually way out of my price range, but I just bought a little baby jacket and knit cap for $19 (plus only $5 for shipping). Check it out!
