It's official - she's teething! And she has toothed! The very edge of her top, left, front tooth is peeking through. I noticed it today when she toppled over at playgroup and started hollering. I think one of her bottom teeth is almost through, too - there's a pretty significant white bump down there.

It's strangely exciting, and also sort of a relief. It's nice to know that something has come of all the fussiness and obvious pain. Speaking of which, her rash is getting better. I think it was definitely a case of "drool stool." I knew that teething could cause rashes, but I didn't know exactly why - a friend explained that there are more digestive enzymes in the saliva during teething, to help break down the gums. I thought it was just an immune weakness thing, but this makes more sense. And explains why her bottom looked downright burned. Last night I gave her a cool bath, let her air dry (and pee all over the room), slathered her with calendula and then Weleda diaper cream. This morning she was still red but she didn't look so inflamed. Poor little kid. This whole thing must be so confusing. And by "this whole thing" I mean life in general.
