2004-05-05 - 11:12 p.m. - Cycle day: Hanging out with other moms and babies is so healthy. I'm not glad that I lost my job, but an unexpected benefit has been having the time and energy to get out of the house and talk to other mamas. I go to a breastfeeding group on Monday morning, have a playgroup on Tuesdays, and then usually meet up with a few other mamas for a zoo visit on Fridays. It wasn't all that long ago that I was going weeks at a time without leaving the house or seeing an adult other than The Husband, so it's been tremendously therapeutic to have some scheduled social time almost every day. We had a really nasty, stormy week a little while back, and towards the end of it I realized I hadn't left the house in four days. It was making me a little crazy. A few months ago, I barely would have noticed. Or more accurately, I wouldn't have detected a change in my mood, because I was feeling isolated and shut-in pretty much all of the time. It's ironic how lonely you can feel after bringing an entirely new person into the world and spending all your time with it.
