2004-02-16 - 2:45 p.m. - Cycle day: Well, we made it almost six months, but the time has come: M. is sick. Fortunately, it's just a sniffle, but it's hard not to feel pretty bad for her. She keeps coughing because she can't get enough air through her nose, and she was miserable throughout the night. When we woke up this morning, there wasn't any skin visible between her nose and upper lip - it was just a solid crust of post-nasal drip (as the polite cold medicine commercials say). And of course, she ferociously fights any efforts to make her feel (or look) better. Doesn't want the warm washcloth, can't tolerate tissues, and of course will have nothing to do with the aspirator. Good thing we got the flexible-tip kind, or else she'd have little pock marks all over her face from jerking her head away every time I get near her. I'm not feeling great, either, and I suspect we both caught this bug when we visited a friend and her two toddlers last week. They were both sniffly and drippy, but I felt bad asking their mom if they were okay. I didn't want it to seem like a criticism of their less-than-luminous faces. Good news is, things seem better already. M. had a low fever this morning, but she feels fine now. She's been trying to catch up on her sleep, but she doesn't have that droopy look that truly sick kids get. I wish there was something concrete I could do to make her feel better, but all she seems to want is a little extra cuddling. She's a trooper.
